One of the things l love most about the holidays is opening up my home to friends and family. The picture of all of us sitting down to a delicious dinner on a spectacularly set table aglow with sparkling crystal and candles flashes through my mind bringing with it feelings of joy and …trepidation. Trepidation, yes, because even though I have lofty ideas about place settings, centerpieces and decorations, I don’t necessarily have the time or the budget to bring some of these ideas to fruition. Now, I know that the people I love would be happy with paper plates and plastic cutlery, because after all, the main focus of these gatherings is all about connecting, bonding and just being together. But I also know that the tone and look of my dinner table will inevitably enhance both the food and the atmosphere, making the whole evening even more special.
Enhance Your Holiday Table with Waterford and Royal Crown Derby Dinnerware
Luckily, current trends in tableware allow us to set a memorable holiday table without breaking our budget or eating up our time. One of those trends is the return of classic, clean, white china, which like a blank canvas, provides a backdrop to build on limited only by your imagination. The upside of this is that you can find basic white tableware in a range of prices. One beautiful and affordable example is Waterford’s Ballet Icing Pearl with its clean and sophisticated white-on-white pattern. Another trend in table design is simple but striking homemade centerpieces and decorations. Gone are the days when we had to spend a small fortune in store-bought flower arrangements. Instead, a pile of pinecones, twigs, branches, holy and small dishes of nuts artfully but casually spread on top of a velvet runner can be quite striking. Add some fat pillar candles of different heights for mood lighting and you are good to go. Another trend is to invest in one or two really spectacular serving pieces to enhance what you already own. An unusual serving tray in an unexpected shade of turquoise or a vintage-look, super-elegant soup tureen like Royal Crown Derby’s Royal Antoinette, can add a touch of class, color or decadence (whichever you prefer!) to any holiday table.
